BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Rice, in Saturday's ITA Kickoff Weekend consolation match. The two-day event was hosted by Texas and played in Austin, Texas.

The consolation teams were determined after FAU fell to No. 1 Texas, on Friday. Rice also lost on Friday, but to SMU, setting up Saturday's Owls versus Owls matchup.

On the doubles' courts, FAU was victorious on court three, but fell on court two which cast all eyes on court one for the point's decision. Tied at 6-6 the two teams began a tiebreak set, which Rice won 7-2, clinching the first point of the match.

Rice built a 2-0 lead before redshirt junior Martina Kudelova captured court one in straight sets. Freshman Millie-Matthews, who moved up in today's lineup, followed with a 6-3, 6-1 decision to even the match at 2-2.

Then, FAU fell on court two but responded with freshman Carina Sommer winning her first collegiate singles match played, which evened the score at three. The final match of the day and the deciding match moved into its third set. Rice battled back after dropping the first set to win the next two sets and take the match.
