BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time in 2022, the Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team will play at the newly minted Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center, when the Owls host Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
Thus far, this team has shown resilience and growth with five of the seven team members beginning their collegiate careers at FAU in the fall of 2021. By December, the team was under new direction and by January they were opening their dual match season. That resilience and growth will be challenged this season with the first nine of 10 matches being played on the road.
FAU opened the season in Fort Myers, Florida at the FGCU Invite. The Owls returned home with a 2-1 record and then traveled to play perennial top-20 Miami, in Coral Gables. FAU fell at Miami and just days later they were in Austin, Texas facing the University of Texas, the nation's No. 1 team, at the ITA Kickoff Weekend Invite. The consolation match versus Rice saw FAU fight for every point, but ultimately FAU fell 4-3.
The Owls (2-4) are 7-7 all-time versus FGCU (3-2). FAU captured last match played between the two schools by a 6-1 score.
The Owls will continue to be led by redshirt junior
Martina Kudelova and junior
Katerina Filip. The duo combine for a 5-4 in singles play and will work together on doubles court No. 1.
Next Up
After just one home match, FAU will travel to Wichita, Kansas for a contest versus Wichita State and then to Manhattan, Kansas to face Kansas State on Feb. 11th and 12th, respectively.
