BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (5-1-1, 1-0-1 in Conference USA) put on the engines during their C-USA matchup against Old Dominion (2-4-1, 0-1-1 C-USA), taking down the Monarchs, 3-0. All three of the Owls' goals were scored by different players and included double assists on Saturday night. The win provides the Owls with three big points in the conference standings, as the team currently stands in second with four points.
First Half
The Owls wasted no time getting on the board for the second straight match.
Luis Sailer Fidalgo delivered a cross to
Blake Dean who one-touched the ball to
Jose Alastuey who found the bottom of the left net for his third goal of the season. The goal put the Owls up 1-0 at just the fifth minute. At the 45th minute,
Tom Abrahamsson lined up for a corner kick in hopes of giving FAU a larger cushion going into the half. He found
Leo Keller who had two chances for the back of the net, both knocked out by the keeper. Outshooting the Monarchs 5-2, the Owls had a 1-0 advantage heading into the half.
Second Half
The second half was all Owls, as FAU outshot the Monarchs, 8-2. Looking for some extra insurance,
Filip Jauk was able to find the back of the net off a cross by Sailer Fidalgo. Alastuey logged the second assist on that goal, which was scored at the 62nd minute. The Owls were not done yet, as
Daniel Skistad crossed the ball over to
Davide Romeo, who buried the back left of the net for his second goal of the season.
Zach Hassell played a big role in the ball setup, being credited for the second assist on that goal. The Owls were hungry for more, tallying a near goal moments after their third one, which ended up being offsides. FAU outshot the Monarchs 13-4 in the 3-0 shutout win, as the Owl backline made it tough for ODU to get much going offensively.
