Owls Win on Day 2 of Tiger Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (8-2) won their final match of the Tiger Invitational on Saturday, taking down the Lehigh Mountain Hawks by a score of 3 sets to 1.
Owls junior libero Camryn Vogler dazzled on defense and finished the match with 19 digs on her way to being named to the All-Tournament team. Vogler averaged 13.3 digs per match across the two-day event and frequently came up with timely assists to feed her teammates.
Klara Zarnovicka and Katelynn Robine led the Owls attack, finishing with 14 and 12 kills respectively, while FAU hit .345 as a team en route to their seventh victory in eight matches.
Set 1
Lehigh opened the scoring in the first set and took off on an 8-3 run, but middle blocker Lauryn Green grabbed the momentum back after service aces by she and MiaBella English worked the Owls to a 12-12 tie. From there, a pair of kills by Robine kept put the Mountain Hawks on the back foot as FAU took a one-point lead, 14-13. Lehigh refused to back down, and responded to a 5-2 Owls run by taking seven of the next ten points to knot the set at 22. Despite Robine's fourth kill of the set, Lehigh went on to take set 1, 25-23.
Set 2
The Mountain Hawks jumped out to another quick lead in set 2 before FAU responded again and tied the set at 5. Setter Stephanie Young was clinical as she teed up her teammates throughout set, and the rest of the match, finishing her night with 19 assists. Back and forth the two teams went until Green and outside hitter Christine Jarman came through with a huge block, tying the score at 18. Lehigh struck back with a pair of their own blocks, eventually taking a 23-22 lead. However, the Owls were wise to the Mouintain Hawk strategy and stood tall on defense, keeping the set alive. A service ace by Zarnovicka to tie it at 23 and another on one set-point brought the second set to a close, 25-23.
Set 3
In the third set, it was the Owls turn to jump out to a lead, with Robine, Zarnovicka and Nikola Bartecka each adding a kill to make the score 10-3 as setter English found the perfect stroke to tee-up her teammates. FAU maintained their aggression throughout the set, smothering Lehigh with attack after attack, opening a nine-point lead at 17-6. From there, the Owls slammed on the gas and did not look back, taking the final eight points of the set win it 25-6 and go up 2 sets to 1.
Set 4
The fourth set returned the match to the hard-fought nature of the first period. Green and Jarman led the attack for the Owls, with Jarman on her way to double digit digs on the evening (10). Owls sophomore Sonte Stewart saw extended minutes and made them count with her fourth kill, giving FAU a one-point lead at 11-10. The teams traded points until Zarnovicka recorded a pair of kills to extend the lead at 22-19. The Owls weathered one more final charge from Lehigh before Zanovicka's 14th kill brought the set and match to an end.
- Young finished with a season high three service aces
- Bartecka put away a season-high six kills on 10 attacks, finishing with a .600 hitting percentage
- Vogler averaged 13.3 digs across three matches to earn the all-tournament nod
FAU will return home to host the Sunshine Challenge Cup from Sept. 16-17. The Owls will face teams from the Miami, UCF and Florida Gulf Coast during the two-day tournament.
