BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team plays the first game of the first day of the 2021 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Baseball Championship, taking on Old Dominion on Wednesday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston, Louisiana.
UPDATE (9 a.m. Eastern Wednesday): With weather here in Ruston, first pitch is now scheduled for noon Eastern.

FAU (30-23, 18-14 C-USA) is fifth seed in the tournament draw, and will take on No. 4 seed – and ranked as high as No. 18 nationally – Old Dominion (38-14, 22-10 C-USA). The Owls and Monarchs are paired alongside top seed Charlotte and No. 8 Middle Tennessee in their half of the bracket. Each winner of FAU/ODU and CLT/MT plays one another Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern, the two teams that aren't victorious once again play Thursday's first game, at 10 a.m. Eastern.

Owls' Midweek in Review
The Owls took a shutout victory in the team's regular season finale, with
Adrien Reese,
Mitchell Hartigan,
Sam Drumheller and
Dante Visconti, limiting Miami to six hits in a 3-0 win last Tuesday. Reese
earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors for his four-inning portion of the effort.

Owls' Tournament Opener in Preview
ODU has gone ahead and traveled to Ruston, playing tournament host Louisiana Tech in two non-conference games, and winning both. The Monarchs topped the Bulldogs 10-8 on Thursday and 8-7 Friday. The squad features two of the top power hitters/run producers in the country, as Kyle Battle led C-USA with 17 home runs, while Andy Garriola finished tied among all DI hitters with 65 RBI. Battle also was first in the league in slugging at .714 and with 49 walks, and second in OBP at .470 and in runs scored at 62. The Monarchs' lineup also features true freshman Carter Trice, the team's top hitter – second in C-USA – at .364, with 12 homers and 48 RBI. He trails only Battle with a .652 slugging percentage, and is third in the league with 72 hits.

C-USA Championship History
Since joining the league, and first being eligible for postseason play in 2015, the Owls are 12-9 all-time, with championship game appearances in 2018 and 2019. FAU has played ODU in the postseason twice, winning both: 6-4 in Hattiesburg in 2015, and 6-2 in 2017 in Biloxi.
