BOCA RATON, Fla. – The last weekly awards were handed out on Monday by Conference USA as the 2021 regular season wrapped up this past weekend. For his performance in the Owls' regular season finale, Florida Atlantic University baseball lefthander Adrien Reese has been honored as C-USA Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Reese drew the midweek start last Tuesday, on short notice, the first start of his FAU career. And he more than delivered. The Moline, Illinois native pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win as part of a combined road shutout of Miami. It marked just the second time in program history the Owls have shut out the Hurricanes – the other being on April 2, 1993 – and the first time ever in Coral Gables.
Â
In his longest ever outing as an Owl, Reese saw just one batter reach third base in his four shutout frames (reaching his pitch count), and he had two strikeouts. The graduate, having just celebrated his Senior Day the previous weekend, gave up just three hits, held opposite (RH) hitters to a 1-for-5 night and limited the UM lineup to just a 1-for-6 showing with runners on base.
Reese, earning a C-USA weekly award for the first time in his Owls' career, joins two other first-time FAU Player of the Week honorees from earlier this season, Nolan Schanuel (Feb. 23) and Steven Loden (May 10).Â
Â
FAU is back in action Wednesday, literally lifting the lid on the 2021 C-USA Championship tournament in Ruston, Louisiana. The Owls and Old Dominion will have a 10 a.m. Eastern first pitch.
