JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a rare 2021 midweek doubleheader, the Florida Atlantic University Owls traveled to face North Florida on Wednesday. FAU fell in the first game 5-1, but took the second game, 12-4 in six innings.
Game 1
FAU (12-29) gave up a run in the bottom of the second, two runs in the third and another two runs in the fifth to UNF (18-21). The Owls scored their lone run in the sixth, when
Sommer Baker was hit by a pitch to open the inning, promptly stole second and then scored on a
Bailey Story RBI single. The Owls were held to five hits and left seven on base.
Game 2
Donnie Gobourne started in the circle in both the first and the second games. The sophomore held the Ospreys scoreless in the first inning of each. But was chased from the game in the third inning of game one and in the second of game two, allowing two runs in both. Senior
Kara Lokeinsky stepped into the circle in game two, with the Owls down 4-2. She tossed a total of four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while FAU's offense worked its magic, scoring 11 runs in four innings. FAU scored in all but the first inning to record the mercy-rule win.
"It was a very good offensive day," said
Joan Joyce, FAU's head coach. "We played like we can. We hit the ball pretty good and ran the bases pretty good. Kara [Lokeisky] pitched well. She came in and finished off the game very nicely. It was a fun game."
