Tournament Stay Extended With Dominant Win Over UAB

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 14^th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team split its opening games in the CCSA Conference Championship, defeating UAB handily and falling to FIU.

A No. 2 seed heading into the tournament, FAU (17-10) fell to the No. 3-seeded FIU by a score of 2-3. The Owls collected a 4-1 victory over UAB shortly after, though, extending their tournament stay.

FAU earned a Saturday matchup against Southern Miss with its win over UAB.

Match One vs. No. 12 FIU
Mackenzie Morris and Erica Brok, who earned CCSA All-Conference honors on Thursday, posted a resounding victory on Court One, winning straight sets with a +11 scoring margin. Maylin Bouffard and Savannah Pesante won straight sets of their won on Court Four, 21-15, 21-18. Courtney Moon and Abby Jackson played a nail-biter on Court Five, falling by only three points in the final frame of a three-set battle.

Match Two vs. UAB
Ellie Austin and Kenley Adams dominated on Court Two, winning in straight sets including a 21-5 second frame. Brok and Morris won their second-consecutive match on Court One, 21-10, 21-19, to bring the pair to 16-4 on the season. Cangelosi and Dorish won in straight sets, too, thanks to a hard-fought 22-20 second-set victory. Jackson and Moon collected a fourth straight-set win for FAU, as they defeated UAB's pair by a score of 21-15, 21-19.
