BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 14
th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team will battle two top-20 teams in their final regular-season event on Saturday.
Games against No. 13 FIU and No. 17 Stetson await the Owls (16-7) in Deland, where the Hatters are hosting the tri-match. Â FAU will play FIU at noon and Stetson at 2 p.m.
Recent history has favored FAU in those matchups. The Owls have won four straight against Stetson, including three this season, and their last two against FIU. FAU was slated to play FIU a third time in last week's FSU Unconquered Invitational, but inclement weather caused the game's cancellation.
"Big last weekend of regular season play!" said FAU coach
Capri Grotowski, who earned her 100th win last week. "One-day event against two ranked teams. Looking forward to watch the team put up two more W's as we head to Conference next week."Â
The Owls come into this event with positive momentum, as they've won four straight for their second-longest streak of the season.
Savannah Pesante and
Maylin Bouffard have been instrumental to that run, as the recently-formed pair has won seven straight matchups with six coming in two sets. The pairs of
Courtney Moon/
Abby Jackson and
Jillienne Cangelosi/
Kaila Dorish have also excelled, winning five of their last six and three straight, respectively.
After the tri-match, the Owls will be less than a week away from the CCSA Conference Championships, which take place April 23-25 in Huntsville, Alabama.
