BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University diver
Selina Staudenherz has been recognized as the Conference USA Freshman Diver of the Year. Staudenherz is the first Owl to receive this award since 2017.
Â
At the 2021 C-USA Swimming & Diving Championships, Staudenherz finished among the top of the pack in all three of her events. The freshman placed fifth on the 3-meter (269.30) and 1-meter (248.15) to capture the best scores of all freshmen in the league, as well as placing 11th on the platform (151.90).
Â
Staudenherz began her collegiate diving career with a second place finish on the 1-meter (245.48) and fourth on the 3-meter (230.93) against FIU. The Austrian native also won the 3-meter in the South Florida Diving Invite against the Panthers, with a score of 239.63, in the last meet before the conference championships.
"Selina [Staudenherz} has been a tremendous addition to our team," said dive coach Ryan McIntre. " She has persevered through numerous setbacks over the season and has always come out on top. This will be the first of many accolades she will earn over her career, and the future of the team is bright with her on it. Great job Selina!"
This award marks the fourth C-USA superlative award earned by an Owl. The last diver to win C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year was Victoria Moretti in 2017. In his fourth year coaching the divers, Coach McIntire has accomplished tremendous success. This season, his group racked up nine conference championship medals,
Logan Downey was named CCSA Diver of the Year for the second straight season and McIntire won CCSA Diving Coach of the Year.
