HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team won their Conference USA opener on Friday night, defeating Marshall on the road in comeback fashion, 2-1 at Hoops Family Field.
The Beginning:
It took just 1:15 for Marshall (1-2-0, 0-1-0 C-USA) to get on the board, and they held the lead into the half.
The Turning Point:
FAU (2-2-1, 1-0-0 C-USA) earned a corner midway through the second, and cashed in, with Emma Grissom serving it to Amanda Martin, who headed it past the Herd keeper. Just 3:14 later, a Marshall own goal gave the Owls the lead.
The Finish:
The FAU defense didn't allow another shot the remaining 18 minutes-plus of the match. Thelma Hermannsdottir nearly added another score on a breakaway, but the attempt was wide.

Quotable
"Anytime you play on the road in conference, it's a huge ask," said head coach Patrick Baker. "Chillier temperatures here, playing on Astroturf, playing against a team well-inspired tonight, (they) jumped on us early and scored a wonderful goal, put us on our heels. We had some decent things happen towards the end of the first half, came out in the second half, (Marshall) still had great energy. And then we changed our shape and really went for it, and I think we got our rewards."Full Video with Coach Baker:
