AUSTIN, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team improved each round at the George Hannon Invitational, finishing sixth among a field with eight top-50 teams with a three-round 873.
A third-round 287, the fourth-best round of the day, saw the Owls leap three spots from Day One to Day Two. The Owls posted a 295 in the first round and a 291 in the second.
Enrique Dimayuga and
Max Sturdza were vital to their team's third-round surge, carding a 70 and 71, respectively.
"I have high expectations for this group and I think they do, too," FAU coach
Ryan Jamison said. "It's nice to finish sixth in a stacked field, but the reality is we have a lot to work on. Tough fields expose you, and we need to be stronger. We will get there!"
Davis Lamb was FAU's top finisher, tying for 20
th with a 216. Dimayuga and Sturdza finished just behind at 31
st with 219s.
Alex Maguire (220) and
Sully Zagerman (230) tied for 37
th and 67
th, respectively.
FAU improved three spots over the George Hannon Invitational's final day, finishing above No. 31 Baylor, No. 46 TCU and No. 50 Little Rock.Â
The Owls will next appear at The Goodwin, a three-day event at the Stanford Golf Course. Stanford is hosting the event from March 25-27.
