Grinberg Wins Brazilian Amateur Championship

PARANA, Brazil – Former Florida Atlantic men's golfer Guilherme Grinberg earned a statement victory last week at the Brazilian Amateur Championship, the country's premier national amateur golf tournament organized by the Confederação Brasileira de Golfe (CBGolfe).
Grinberg posted rounds of 66-66-67-66 to finish at 23-under par and claim a 10-shot victory at Alphaville Graciosa Club in Pinhais, Parana. The native of Sao Paulo outlasted a field of 39 players from seven different countries. This was his fourth amateur victory in the last 13 months.
The win vaulted Grinberg up 118 places in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). He now sits at No. 374. The WAGR — run jointly by The R&A and the USGA — is the official global system for ranking elite men's and women's amateur golfers. It evaluates a player's average performance across counting events over a rolling 104-week period, allowing golfers to compare skills globally without playing head-to-head. Higher rankings can lead to entry in elite tournaments such as the U.S. Amateur and the British Amateur Championships, which use WAGR positions to determine field exemptions and cutoffs.
Grinberg recently completed a successful five-year career at Florida Atlantic. He ranks third all-time in career scoring average (73.04) and total birdies (316) and fourth in rounds of par or better (41).
