BOCA RATON --Â The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team hits the road for the final time in the regular season this weekend. The Owls will be in Hattiesburg, Miss. to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a Conference USA series. The FAU-Southern Miss matchups take place at 8 p.m. ET on Friday and 5 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Red Green Center.

The Owls are 8-9 overall and 3-5 in C-USA action, while Southern Miss is 8-14, 4-11.Â
The Owls dropped a pair of contests at UTSA two weeks ago and have lost three straight after winning three consecutive games. The Golden Eagles defeated FIU last Friday, but saw Saturday's game postponed.
FAU trails the all-time series with USM by a slim 5-2 tally. The Owls lost 68-66 on the road last season and have dropped three straight to the Golden Eagles.
Michael Forrest is one of the most prolific 3-point shooters in Conference USA. The junior guard is No. 4 in the league in 3-point field goals made per game, averaging 2.53 per contest. He is No. 4 in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at .352 and he is No. 8 in 3-point field goal attempts, hoisting 122 shots up from beyond the arc. His 145 career 3-point field goals made currently ranks No. 10 on the FAU all-time chart. With his proclivity for long-range bombing, Forrest is the No. 2-ranked scorer on the team, averaging 11.9 points per game.Â
Everett Winchester had back-to-back career nights in the Owls' series vs. FIU. He matched his career-best with 10 points and snagged a career-high 9 rebounds in FAU's 81-79 road victory. He followed that up with a career-high 12 points and a career-best 14 rebounds for his first career double-double in the home win. His 14 boards were the most in a single game for FAU since 2018. He added 9 more rebounds in the Friday matchup against Charlotte. He has averaged 7.2 boards over the past 6 contests.
After the Owls finish their series at Southern Miss, they will play their final home games of the season March 4-5. FAU will host Middle Tennessee State in a two-game set at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena. MTSU is currently 5-13 overall and 3-9 in C-USA action. The Blue Raiders have lost eight of their last 10. FAU and Middle Tennessee were slated to open C-USA play, but that series was postponed due to Covid testing results and contact tracing for MTSU. FAU is 6-19 all-time in the series with MTSU. The Owls are 4-10 at home vs. the Blue Raiders and have won the last two in the series.
