WICHITA, KAN. – The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team fell to Wichita State by a score of 88-70 on Saturday to close the 2025-26 regular season.
A strong shooting start for the Owls (17-14, 9-9) was not enough to overcome a Shockers (21-10, 13-5) run in the second half.
Despite the loss, junior guard
Kanaan Carlyle put forth his best scoring performance of the season with 26 points, tied for the most by an Owl this season in American Conference play.
FIRST HALF
Redshirt junior guard
Niccolo Moretti was aggressive at the rim early on, responsible for the Owls' first six points. Two three-pointers and a driving layup by Carlyle kickstarted his scoring explosion and gave Florida Atlantic a 16-10 lead.
Carlyle set the tone for the Owls' hot start, with the team converting 55% of its shots from the field in the first 20 minutes. By the end of the half, he had 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
A tightly contested first half saw neither team lead by more than six. Following seven straight points by Carlyle late in the period, a putback layup by the Shockers just before the buzzer sounded sent the Owls down 43-41 at halftime.
SECOND HALF
Back-to-back buckets from beyond the arc, including Carlyle's fourth triple of the game, gave the lead back to the Owls.
The two teams then traded blows with seven lead changes over the next five minutes until the 10-minute mark. FAU last led 61-60 before the Shockers pulled away with a 13-2 run to go up by double-digits.
Three free throws from Carlyle closed the gap, but Wichita State soon answered back and built an insurmountable lead.
