BOCA RATON, Fla.Â
– The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team will clash with UTEP on Saturday night in a Conference USA matchup. The Owls enter at 3-5-4 on the year and 1-1-2 in C-USA action, while the Miners stand at 3-8-0 and 1-3-0 in conference play.
Owls' Friday in Review
The Owls are looking to bounce back after a 1-0 defeat to Middle Tennessee in last weekend's match. FAU had its fair share of scoring opportunities, outshooting Middle Tennessee 16-8, but the Owls could not find the back of the net. The corner kick battle was also won by FAU, 10-3.
Owls' Saturday in Preview
UTEP heads into the match after a 2-1 loss to Louisiana Tech last weekend. The Miners picked up their first conference win of the season against UTSA on Sept. 24. Much like FAU, UTEP has played its fair share of close games, with nine of the Miners' 11 contests being decided by one goal.
Standings Logjam
Saturday night's match marks the start of the second half of the C-USA slate, and it's a key game for FAU. The Owls are currently in fifth place in C-USA East with five points, but they are only one point shy of Middle Tennessee and two points behind Charlotte. WKU and Old Dominion are tied for first with 12 points each in the East.
Defense Continues to Hold Strong
In the last match, the FAU defense held up tough against the leading scorer in C-USA, Peyton DePriest, and limited her to only one shot on goal. The Owls' defense has allowed one or no goals in 11 out of the 12 matches this season. The 11 goals allowed ties FAU for fifth in the conference, and
Amit Cohen's goals against average of .837 is good for third in C-USA.
Opponent History
In this head-to-head matchup, UTEP holds a 3-2 edge on FAU. The last meeting came in the 2017 season when the Owls edged the Miners by a 1-0 tally.
