BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (9-8, 1-3 in Conference USA) will return home to Boca Raton for a two-match series against the Marshall Thundering Herd (5-12, 1-3 C-USA) on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9. The Owls will try for a pair of league wins as they seek to keep pace with the strongest part of their C-USA schedule still left to play.
Freshman Noelle Stephens burst onto the scene in match two against Charlotte last weekend, setting career-highs in assists (21) and digs (5). The Winter Park, Florida native already has four matches this year with ten or more assists.
Sophomore Halle Olson made the absolute most of her increased playing time as she too set superlative individual marks in the second match. Olson finished with 13 points on nine kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks, all of which are season-highs.
One of FAU's greatest strengths this season has been consistent backline play, with all of FAU's setters and defensive specialists contributing to keep the front line fed with soft tosses. The Owls are currently 24th nationally (2nd in C-USA) in team assists.
Freshman star Klara Zarnovicka continues to pour in aces from the service line, just as she has done since the beginning of the season. The Czech national sits ninth in the country with 30 aces on the year, six more than anyone else in C-USA.
Sophomore Aniya Harvey has played like a human wall at the net this season, and has been integral to the Owls' success on defense. Coming off five blocks in the second match against Charlotte, Harvey ranks seventh in C-USA averaging 1.0 block per set.
FAU vs. Marshall – The Owls trail 7-4 all-time in clashes against the Herd, with Marshall getting the better of each of their two most recent matchups back in March.
