FINAL RESULTS
PARADISE ISLANDS, Bahamas – The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team recorded its best round during the final 18 holes, with a 7-under combined score Sunday, at the conclusion of the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational.
Â
The squad was led by
Nils Dobrunz, who followed up two under-par rounds with an even-par 72 to wrap play in a tie for 11th (71-70-72 – 213). In his NCAA debut, true freshman
Guilherme Grinberg carded six final round birdies towards a 4-under 68 to rise 16 spots on the leaderboard all the way up to 15th, a stroke behind his teammate (71-75-68 – 214).
Â
Grinberg's final round is the lowest by an Owl so far this season, and it was equaled on the Ocean Club course Sunday by
Juan Delgado, who also posted six birdies. The Owls' quintet combined for 56 birdies, fifth-most in the field, and two eagles as well (Grinberg on Hole No. 1, a par-4 during the opening round, and
Max Sturdza on the par-5 16th on Sunday). Among individuals, Grinberg and
Alex Maguire were both 1-under on par 3's (second lowest), and Sturdza was 8-under on par 5's (third lowest).
Â
The Owls placed eighth out of the 12 teams competing at Atlantis Paradise Island. Ole Miss won by 11 strokes over ETSU, and the Rebels had the medalist as well in Jackson Suber (11-under, one better than Toby Briggs of San Francisco).

Head Coach Mark Leon:
"We've had a long and exciting fall season, and having the opportunity to end it in the Bahamas was a truly special experience. We had the chance to compete in the best field we've faced this fall at The Ocean Club which was truly a world class venue.
Â
"In the first round we came out and played really hard and found ourselves in the final pairing going into the second day; we showed ourselves that we have the game to compete with the best teams in the country.
Â
"On day two we played one of the worst rounds of any team in the tournament. While disappointing, this was an incredible learning experience where we were able to discuss how far we still need to go as a team to get to that next level. The most difficult journey in sports is the one that takes place trying to turn potential into reality, And that's where we still find ourselves.
Â
"In the final round we were determined to come out and fight back. Great teams and great players always follow up a bad round with a great round. I was so proud of the way the boys' fight came out and played one of the better rounds of the day. We were literally one terrible nine holes away from competing for a top spot in this event.         Â
Â
"We're looking forward to the opportunity to take some time to evaluate the path forward and get better over the next three months heading into the spring season."
