WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Florida Atlantic junior men's golfer NaShawn Tyson won the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship on Wednesday at The Park Golf Course in West Palm Beach.
Formerly known as the National Minority Collegiate Championship, the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship (PWCC) is the most culturally significant championship in collegiate golf. Founded in 1986, the inspiration for the event stemmed from elevating the game at minority colleges and universities. For more than 30 years, the PWCC has set the largest stage for student-athletes to compete at the highest level.
After back-to-back rounds of 68 on Monday and Tuesday, Tyson (-10) started the day with a three-shot lead and immediately pushed the advantage to four with a birdie at the first. He went out in 33 and had the lead up to as many as five at one point on the back nine.
Delaware's Arsit Areephun didn't make it easy, though. On the 277-yard par-four 16th, Arrephun hit his tee shot to less than a foot. A tap-in eagle combined with Tyson's par on the same hole cut the lead down to just one.
Tyson was unfazed. He drained a lengthy putt for birdie at 17 to re-establish the two-shot lead. On the par-five 18th, Areephun's second shot gave him another good look at eagle. Tyson's second shot sailed well right of the green, but the Stuart native got up-and-down for birdie to seal a three-shot victory.
This is Tyson's second career win. After becoming the third player in program history to qualify for an NCAA Regional in 2025, he recorded three Top 20 finishes this season.
