BOCA RATON, Fla. – In the final regular season match, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team was topped by Old Dominion, 2-0. The Owls conclude the regular season at 6-6-4 and 4-2-2 in Conference USA play.
The Owls had already clinched a berth into the Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship Tournament prior to tonight's match. FAU will serve as the host for the entire tourney, which will run from Nov. 1-Nov. 7. The complete bracket will be released by the conference tomorrow morning.
Prior to the game, FAU honored its four seniors for their contributions to the program the last five years. Cassidy Wasdin, Emma Grissom, Sammy Vitols, and Miracle Porter were recognized surrounded by their teammates and family members pregame. The quadrant has been a part of 49 victories since the start of the 2017 season.
How it Happened
After a scoreless first half, ODU (10-4-1, 6-1-1 C-USA) broke through in the 48th minute with a Carla Morich goal. Deep in a crowded FAU box, the ball was bouncing around and wound up at the feet of Morich who punched it in.
Five minutes later, FAU had a great scoring look when Bri Austin took a shot 20 yards out on a free kick. The rifled shot bounced off the crossbar to keep ODU on top.
The Monarchs doubled up the lead in the 56'. Morgan Hall had a close shot that was initially denied by FAU keeper Amit Cohen, but Hall controlled the rebound and put the second shot in to make it 2-0.
