BOCA RATON, Fla. –  Madlen Kappeler of the Florida Atlantic University women's cross country team has been tabbed to the 2021 Conference USA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team. A star in the classroom and on the course, Kappeler has made her third consecutive C-USA XC All-Academic Team.

Kappeler holds an impressive 3.933 GPA as an exercise science major. The Vorderhindeland, Germany product was named to the C-USA XC All-Academic Team in 2019 and 2021, as well as the Track & Field All-Academic Team this past spring. She is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member.

Alex Smolka. "She's very deserving of the recognition and, knowing Madlen, will be more embarrassed and humbled by the award than happy and proud. However, she should be proud, excited and continue to strive for more knowledge and success. This is a very happy day for her and a great day for our cross-country program and the entire university!"

The redshirt sophomore has been the top finisher for the Owls in the three races she has competed in this season. She holds the third fastest 5K time (17:50.90) and second best 6K mark (21:11.38) in school history, which are both personal records. Kappeler is a two-time All-C-USA recipient after receiving Second Team honors in 2020 and Third Team in 2019.

The cross country teams are set to compete at the 2021 C-USA Championships on Saturday, Oct.. 30 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
