BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (10-13, 2-8 in Conference USA) will wrap up their season with a trip to Murfreesboro where they'll face the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (7-7, 5-3 C-USA) at Alumni Memorial Gym.
This will be the Owls' final series of the year as they seek to finish off the Fall 2021 volleyball season on a high note after a successful rebuild that saw FAU improve in all phases of the game since the end of the Spring 2021 campaign.
This series will be unique as the Owls will play their first and only contest scheduled on a Sunday this season.
Junior transfer Lauryn Green has owned the middle of the court for the Owls since her arrival. Her team-leading 63 blocks (including 14 in the last four matches) have caused fits for opposing attackers, with three memorable stuffs coming last weekend against #19 Western Kentucky. Green also leads the Owls in hitting percentage with a .325 mark on the season, which ranks her ninth in C-USA.
Outside hitter Sonte Stewart caught fire coming off the bench in the Owls last match to finish with season-highs in kills (7), points (8.5), and blocks (3). Her inspired performance in set 2 was instrumental to the Owls success in snapping Western Kentucky's 12-match streak of sweeps that had been the longest such active run in the nation.
Service power has been FAU's calling card this season with the team's best servers consistently able to deal damage from behind the line. Three Owls players (Zarnovicka, Young, and Vogler) have more than 20 aces on the season and the team has combined for double-digit aces in four matches this year.
FAU vs. MTSU - The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series with a record of 16-10 despite the current FAU streak of eight matches won in a row. The Owls won both of their matches against MTSU last year in five sets.
