BOCA RATON, Fla. – A thrilling 104 minutes of soccer was finished by an FAU golden goal off the foot of
Mia Sennes. Sennes scored four minutes into the second overtime to lift the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team to a dramatic 3-2 win over Marshall. FAU (5-5-4, 3-1-2) clinched a berth to the Conference USA Tournament with the exciting victory.
The Dramatic Finish
Four minutes into double overtime,
Bri Austin sent a through ball towards the middle of the field that found an open Sennes who beat her defender by a step. The freshman forward ran it to the box where she beat the Marshall keeper to give FAU the wild win. The goal was the third of the year for Sennes and her first career game-winner.
Porter's Clutch Goal Ties it up Late
Before Sennes provided the heroics, it was
Miracle Porter who came through in the clutch with a critical goal. The Thundering Herd (3-9-2, 0-5-1 C-USA) held a 2-1 lead with under 30 seconds left to play in regulation and looked to be heading towards the win.
Emma Grissom corralled possession out on the left side and sent a looping pass that found Porter in the center of the box. After she controlled possession, Porter blasted a left-footed rocket into the top right of the net to gridlock the score at 2-2 with just 26 seconds left.
