BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (9-10, 1-5 in Conference USA) will head south to Miami for a crucial two-match set against the FIU Panthers (3-10, 0-4 C-USA) on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16.
The Owls will need a pair of victories in order to keep their post-season hopes alive with just two weekends of league play to follow before the C-USA tournament.
Outside hitter Christine Jarman continues to provide big time firepower and seems to never have an off night. Jarman leads the active FAU roster and is in the top 20 in C-USA in kills per set with a 2.49 average on the year.
FAU has shared the ball extremely well all season, and passing remains a focal point at practice as the Owls feature a frequent backline rotation. The Owls have managed effective ball movement regardless of whom is on the court and currently rank fourth in C-USA in assists per set (12.33).
Junior middle blocker Lauryn Green has provided a match-changing defensive presence in nearly all of her appearances this season. Her 2+ blocks in 12 out of the team's last 15 matches have enabled the Owls to rely on her ability to come through with big plays at the net.
FAU vs. FIU – The Owls series versus the Panthers is one of the oldest in FAU volleyball history. FAU trails 34-30 all-time with the two teams having met twice every season since 1990. The Panthers won both matches the last two times these squads met back in March.
