BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University golf's
Justine Fournand won Conference USA Freshman of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday. The Erstein, France native also earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
Fournand is the second player in program history to win conference Freshman of the Year and the first since 2006.
Over the 2019-20 season Fournand shattered numerous FAU records. She ranks first all-time in stroke average after averaging 72.90, more than a stroke and a half better than No. 2 Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn's 74.45. Her three eagles on the year rank first in a single season and career among FAU women's golfers. At the Florida Gators Invitational, Fournand shot her first career hole-in-one.
"This is a well-deserved accomplishment by Justine and I could not be happier for her," FAU coach
Aimee Neff said. "She is eager to learn and grow as a person and player, and demonstrated this year that she is a game-changer for our program. With the amount of records she broke as a freshman in this shortened season, I am excited to have her back for three more years."
Fournand became the 16th Owl in program history to win a tournament, at the 42nd Pat Bradley Invitational where she posted a 205. At the 2019 Jupiter Women's Invitational, she tied for third with a 214. Fournand earned another top-12 finish and two top-25 finishes for the year.
Shooting par or better in nine rounds, Fournand garnered the second-highest single-season mark in program history and ties for fourth all-time in a career. Fournand also recorded four of the top eight single-round scores in program history.
Fournand posted the best Par 3 (3.0625) and Par 4 (4.1384) scoring averages in team history while finishing second on Par 5's with a 4.9425. Her 52 birdies tie for fifth all-time in a single season.
FAU recorded its best team stroke average ever for a second consecutive season in 2019-20 with a 300. Fournand and her team hope to make it three straight in 2020-21.
