BOCA RATON, Fla. – Recent Florida Atlantic University graduates Tyana Robinson and Kelsey Witkay have been chosen as two of nearly 400 NCAA student-athletes that will attend the 2020 NCAA Career in Sports Forum. The two student-athletes will have the opportunity to receive career guidance and network with athletics administrators and sports industry experts virtually from Wednesday to Friday.
Â
The three-day forum prepares junior and senior student-athletes for careers following graduation. Student-athletes are able to learn more about themselves as leaders, while working on projects that require critical thinking and practical experiences. Through participation, the attendees will gain a better understanding of different roles that are available within the athletics industry.
Â
Witkay was a four-year member of the women's swimming & diving team, serving two years as co-captain. The Alamo, California native spent the last year as the SACAE President and is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and Honor Roll recipient. Witkay is the FAU freshman record holder in the 100 IM and 400 medley relay.
Â
"I'm so excited to have the opportunity to participate in the 2020 virtual NCAA Career in Sports Forum," said Witkay. "I am most looking forward to networking and connecting with individuals that I share similar career interests with. Additionally, I am hoping to get as much out of the forum as I can to help me pursue my goals in the sports marketing and sports management industry!"
Â
Robinson was a four-year member of the women's basketball team, three as a player and one as a student manager. The Indianapolis native graduated in early May after majoring in sociology. Robinson had several memorable moments on the court, including connecting on 33 3-pointers in 11 games in her debut season with the Owls.
Â
Forum sessions include how student-athletes can become more aware of their inner strengths, how to develop a career plan, practical approaches to job searching, how to navigate as a young professional in the athletics industry, the role of an athletics administrator and head coach, as well as other motivational messages. A student-athlete task force has also been created to identify and develop specific sessions where student-athletes showed the most interest.
Â
The 400-plus student-athletes are from universities and colleges across all three divisions with various academic majors and sports represented. The forum is usually held at the NCAA headquarters for about 200 student-athletes, but was expanded this year to provide more guidance and education, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
