Baseball Edged Out in Middle Matchup with Huskies

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team's series with Northeastern evened up on Saturday as the Owls dropped a 10-7 decision to the Huskies. Sunday's rubber matchup will determine the series winner.
Â
"Credit to Northeastern, I thought they played really well. We've certainly got to pitch better, we weren't able to get out of innings. Offensively, we hit a few home runs, which is great, but other than that, the offense didn't do much. We weren't on base a lot, we weren't making them make plays."

The Turning Point
The Owls (9-5) had a 4-1 lead heading into the fourth, but Northeastern (8-5) scored six unanswered runs in their next three at-bats for a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The big hit was a two-out bases-clearing double in the sixth to snap a 4-4 tie.
Â
The Finish
Nicholas Toney's second two-run home run of the night, in the sixth, cut it the deficit to 7-6, but the Huskies immediately got both of those runs back in the top of the seventh. Another Owl homer, by Jackson Wenstrom to straightaway centerfield, led off the seventh, but that would be the last FAU run of the night. NU added a ninth-inning run and recorded a 1-2-3 bottom half to save the win.
