FRISCO, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team used a 10-0 second half run to defeat Old Dominion 66-56 in the first round of the 2020 Air Force Reserve C-USA Basketball Championships presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Wednesday night.
The Owls (17-15) came out shooting well from the perimeter, making seven of their first eight attempts from 3-point range, building a 23-15 lead at the midway point of the first half. ODU (13-19) eventually managed to take the lead before a Cornelius Taylor layup sent the teams to the locker room tied 32-32 at the half.
ODU, who swept last season's C-USA regular season and tournament championships, got out to a quick start in the second half, needing just five minutes to build a 42-37 advantage. The Owls, as they did every time the Monarchs built a modest lead, rallied to level the sides.
Jaylin Hunter scored to give ODU a 50-48 edge with 8:31 to play when the Owls began their decisive rally. D.J. Robertson made a running scoop layup to knot the score. Taylor found Jailyn Ingram in the corner for a triple to give FAU a lead it never relinquished. Ingram made a layup of his own, before Richardson Maitre capped the scoring spurt with five straight points to put the Owls up 60-50 at the 3:23 mark. ODU didn't get within eight points the rest of the way, sending FAU through to the C-USA quarterfinals.

"I'm very proud of our guys' resilience. We had bad foul trouble the entire first half. We kind of hung in there and in the second half, I thought our defense was great and (Jailyn and Richardson) stepped up and made big shots. For 40 minutes, our guys battled, competed and I'm very, very proud of their effort."
Â
Junior forward Jailyn Ingram
"Obviously, we wanted to have a better regular season, but we knew that once we got to the conference tournament, it was a fresh start for us, so we just wanted to come out and get a 'W.'"
