Softball Closes Out Tournament Schedule At Madeira Beach

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team will close out their 2020 tournament schedule at The Spring Games at Madeira Beach this weekend. FAU will face Seton Hall, Miami (OH), Iowa, St. Bonaventure, and South Alabama to close out the tournament portion of the 2020 season.
Seton Hall (Friday at 3 p.m.)
All-time series: tied 3-3
Miami (OH) (Friday at 6 p.m.)
All-time series: FAU leads 4-2
About the Redhawks
Iowa (Saturday at 1:30 p.m.)
All-time series: tied 3-3
About the Hawkeyes

About the Owls
- The Owls have started off the 2020 season with a 4-8 overall record and are 2-3 away from Boca Raton
- After the "Strikeout Cancer" Tournament, senior Kaitlyn Burke leads FAU, batting .394 overall with 13 hits and eight RBIs
- Fayth Davis hit the walk-off double to beat LIU over the weekend, and sports a .282 batting average with 11 hits, two doubles, a home run, and six RBIs
- In the circle, Lynn Gardner owns 3.63 ERA pitching 36.2 innings, while Kara Lokeinsky is close behind with a 3.97 ERA collecting her first win against LIU over the weekend
- The team welcomes 12 newcomers, as well as brings back 11 players and four everyday starters

Eyeing the Competition
Seton Hall (Friday at 3 p.m.)
All-time series: tied 3-3
- Friday will be the seventh meeting between the Owls and Pirates
- All but one game has been played in Boca Raton
- The last time FAU and Seton Hall played was in 2012.
- The Pirates won the first game, 3-9 and FAU bounced back in the second game to win, 9-1
- Seton Hall has started the 2020 season with a 4-9 overall record coming off a 24-24, 2019 season
- The Pirates' most recent loss came against UMBC with a 0-6 decision but quickly jumped back defeating Iona College 4-3 last weekend during the Chanticleer Showdown in Conway, S.C.
- Abby Wingo and Payton Beaver are currently leading the way for the Pirates as Wingo is supporting a .375 batting average followed by Beaver with a .308

- In the last meeting on March 6, 2010, the Owls beat Miami 4-3 in eight innings during the Miken Classic in Boca Raton
About the Redhawks
- The Redhawks are coming off a 35-16 season (16-4 MAC) during the 2019 campaign
- Miami (OH) has started off the season 5-5 winning their last game 4-2 against Saint Louis at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, TN
- Allie Cummins is supporting a .412 batting average playing in all 10 games for the Redhawks going 14-34 with one home run and five RBIs
- Courtney Vierstra is the leading pitcher going 3-2 to start the season with a 2.56 ERA pitching two complete games
Iowa (Saturday at 1:30 p.m.)

- The Owls will face the Hawkeyes for the seventh time in the series on Saturday
- FAU and Iowa split the doubleheader during their last meet up winning the final game 4-3 in 2010

- The Hawkeyes finished last season 19-32 (5-18 B1G), falling to Wisconsin, 7-4, in the Big 10 Conference Tournament
- Nia Carter is leading the team with a .567 batting average with 17 hits and six RBIs, followed by Havyn Monteer and Kit Rocco with a .412 and .400 batting average.

- St. Bonaventure and FAU have met nine times, with the last matchup being 20 years ago

- St. Bonaventure finished 2019 at 9-36 (5-17 Atlantic 10) and will start their 2020 campaign this weekend at the Madeira Beach Spring Games
- Alexandra Deal is the leading returner at the plate, finishing last season batting .309 with 38 hits, 23 runs scored and nine RBIs.

"FAU "Strikeout Cancer" Recap
- The Owls went 1-2 over the weekend during the annual FAU "Strikeout Cancer" tournament falling during the opener against Hofstra and North Florida but defeated LIU with a 9-8 come from behind win
- Fayth Davis hit the walk-off double against LIU for a two RBI double going 2-5 with 3 RBIs
- Kaitlyn Burke led FAU at the plate, going 8-14 with four RBIs over the weekend
- Sara Berthiaume had a perfect game against LIU going 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs
- In the circle, the Owls pitched Lynn Gardner and Kara Lokeinsky against LIU as Lokeinsky collected her first win of the season strikeout out one batter allowing just two runs off five hits. Gardner had four strikeouts pitching four innings.
