BOCA RATON, Fla. – Jailyn Ingram had his first double-double of the season as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team defeated Marshall 91-73 on Saturday. FAU's record improved to 14-9 overall and 6-4 in Conference USA.
Six different Owls scored in the game's first eight minutes, helping FAU take an 18-8 lead over the Thundering Herd (10-13, 4-6 C-USA). FAU held a 36-25 lead at the half on the strength of 44.4% shooting from the floor.
The Owls shot even better during the half, making 19 of their 33 attempts, good for a 57.6% shooting mark. FAU's lead was in double digits for most of the second half, with a pair of
Karlis Silins free throws making the score 60-45 with just under 11 minutes to play.
Marshall got the margin down to five at the eight-minute mark before an
Aleksandar Zecevic 3-pointer and a
Jaylen Sebree layup reestablished a double-digit FAU lead, 67-57, at the 6:35 mark. Â Â
A Marko Serenac layup once again pulled the Herd to within five at 71-66 with 5:25 remaining. However, the Owls' defense clamped down and held Marshall scoreless for the next three and a half minutes. On the offensive end,
Richardson Maitre, Ingram and
Cornelius Taylor combined for a 13-0 run, followed by a
Michael Forrest layup that stretched the FAU lead to 84-68, ending any hopes of a Marshall comeback.

Quotables
FAU Head Coach
Dusty May
On Jailyn Ingram…
"Jailyn dominated the glass, that's what (the coaching staff) challenged him to do and he's capable of doing it every single night. He just presents so many challenges (for the opposition). We used him as a point guard against the press. When you have a guy that you can play as a point guard, you can play him as a (center) and he can defend both of those positions, then you're able to do some different things offensively against a team like Marshall."

FAU junior forward
Jailyn Ingram
On the Owls' defense…
"We just executed our game plan….we knew what type of shots (Marshall) was looking for and we just tried to make sure that they didn't get them."
