BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team will face rival FIU in a home-and-home set this week. The Owls and Panthers will meet in University Park on Wednesday night before making the trip up to Boca Raton on Saturday. The two games will also go a long way in determining seeding for the upcoming Conference USA Bonus Play games. Saturday will be Senior Day and the Owls will recognize
Cornelius Taylor and
Aleksandar Zecevic before the game.
FIU (15-8, 6-4 C-USA) and FAU (14-9, 6-4) are in a three-way tie with Charlotte for fourth place in the conference. Only teams in the top pod (1-5) in the league are eligible for the regular season title. Plus, the top four teams at the end of the regular season receive a bye for the first round of the C-USA Tournament.
Last Week: FAU swept its homestand last week, outlasting WKU 69-65 on Thursday night before defeating Marshall 91-73 on Saturday. Junior forward
Jailyn Ingram had his first double-double in over a year on Saturday.
About FIU: The Panthers split their home games last week, losing to Marshall 84-74 on Thursday night, but bouncing back to down WKU 81-76 on Saturday. FIU has four players averaging double figures, led by senior forward Devon Andrews at 16.1 points per game. Classmate Osasumwen Osaghae is second at 13.4 points. Fellow senior Trejon Jacob (12.1) and junior Eric Lovett (10.2) also average double-figures. Sophomore Antonio Daye Jr. is scoring 9.7 per game, giving FIU a fifth player close to double digits.
History: FIU leads the all-time series 26-19 on the court, but the Panthers were forced to vacate several victories due to NCAA sanctions.
