BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team added a talented Brazilian to the squad on Tuesday. Guilherme Grinberg, a Sau Paulo native, signed his National Letter of Intent and will join the Owls for the 2021-22 season.
"We are super excited to announce the signing of Guilherme to our roster," FAU coach
Ryan Jamison said. "We have wanted 'Gui' from the start after watching him play at the Latin American Amateur Championship in Mexico. Gui is an absolute competitor and will be a tremendous addition to our squad. His track record speaks for itself. "
That track record includes victories at the Faldo Series-South American Championships, back-to-back victories at the U.S. Kids South American Championship, a 13th-place finish at the 2020 Latin American Amateur Championship and more than 10 national victories over the past two years. Grinberg, a member of the Brazilian National Team, is World Amateur Golf's 687th ranked golfer. Â
Grinberg's move to South Florida reunites him with his sister and fellow golfer, Lauren. Lauren Grinberg competes at nearby Barry University and is Division II's 38th ranked golfer, per Golfstat.
At FAU, Grinberg joins an Owls' squad that set program records in stroke average (289.05) and national ranking (104) a season ago. Jamison hopes Grinberg can contribute to an even better output in 2021.
"We look forward to having [Grinberg] on campus and working hard to accomplish all of our goals," Jamison said.
