BOCA RATON – Six Owls scored in double figures as the FAU men's basketball team routed Florida Memorial 112-49 Saturday afternoon at FAU Arena. It was the fourth straight victory for Florida Atlantic, which improved to 4-2 on the season.
Michael Forrest came off the bench to score 15 points, including 3-of-3 shooting from the 3-point arc to lead all scorers in the contest. Bryan Greenlee was 3-of-5 from long range and added 14 points. Freshman Giancarlo Rosado had the best outing of his young career with 13 points off the bench. Kenan Blackshear and Jailyn Ingram each scored a dozen. Alijah Martin hit each of his 3-point field goal attempts en route to 11 points.
The Owls went on top by 10 points, 16-6, on a Blackshear traditional three-point play five minutes into the contest. The lead ballooned to 20 with seven minutes remaining before halftime on a pair of Rosado free throws. FAU outscored Florida Memorial 24-2 over the final nine minutes of the first half and led 51-16 at the intermission.
It was more of the same in the second half, as FAU methodically pulled away from the Lions to record the 63-point victory. It was the second 100-point outing of the season for the Owls and the second time this season they've won by more than 60 points.
Every Owl who suited up saw at least three minutes of playing time and all but one entered their name in the scorebook. In addition to his 12 points, Ingram had a solid stat line across the board, tallying five assists, three steals and five rebounds.
FAU converted 54.8 percent of its field-goal attempts on 40-of-73 shooting. The Owls were even more efficient from long range, converting on 59.1 percent of its 3-point attempts.
"We're shooting the ball well from behind the line. This was a smaller, quicker team so I didn't think we'd be able to get that many 3's off. I thought we'd have an advantage in the paint and we did. We were great on the offensive glass. I was proud of our guys. I thought they played hard, determined basketball for 32 minutes with great purpose. I thought we let our guard down for about four minutes each half. After NC State was canceled, we didn't know who we were going to play, didn't know where, when. We said we're going to really focus on us and take advantage of whatever's in front of us."
FAU goes on the road for an in-state matchup at Stetson in Deland on Tuesday. The Hatters are 0-4 on the season, including losses to Florida, Miami and South Florida.
