BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team took their Friday afternoon matchup over Florida Gulf Coast at the FAU Tennis Complex, improving to 3-5 on the year with a 5-2 win.

Notables:

The Owls got off to a good start with quick wins on doubles courts No. 1 and No. 3. Maxime Lapraille and Filip Krolo posted a 6-1 win in the former; Yovan Lambros and Thomas Guy went over 6-3 in the latter
The FAU lead ballooned to 3-0 with successive wins in singles by No. 4 Krolo and No. 2 Lapraille. Krolo nearly had an unblemished victory (6-0, 6-1), and Lapraille picked up his first FAU dual singles win by a 6-1, 6-3 margin
FGCU (1-3) took the next two decisions, but Alvaro Fernandez Horta recorded the clincher, taking a straight-set win on No. 3, 6-4, 6-4
Though the Owls had the victory in hand, Gerard Escandell added the cherry on top. After falling in the first set, the freshman rebounded to win the second and take the 10-point tiebreaker: 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7)

What's Next

The Owls host a home doubleheader next Saturday, Feb. 8, before traveling a bit south the following day for three matches in a little over 24 hours. On Saturday, it's South Alabama at 10 a.m. and DePaul at 3 p.m.; FAU then heads to Coral Gables to take on Miami on Sunday at noon.
