Joyce Recognized with TPW Fastpitch ELITE Life Award

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University softball head coach Joan Joyce has been selected as the recipient of the 2020 TPW Fastpitch ELITE Life Award. This award, presented by One Dream Zero Distraction, LLC (1DZD), honors the long-term demonstration of eliteness in sport, community and life, while being able to embrace the hustle and chase the dream. Joyce adds this award to several on her shelf, along with 20 Halls of Fame.

Joyce will be recognized for the award on Dec. 12 in Dallas. Past recipients include Gayle Blevins (2019), Lori Harrigan-Mack (2017) and Leah O'Brien-Amico (2016).

"I have played all of the sports (softball, volleyball, basketball, bowling and golf), and I'm glad with how far the sports have progressed,"Â Â said Joyce. "When I played basketball, we went door-to-door selling chocolates in hopes of making enough money to play in the national tournament. With Title IX, it gives women the opportunity to play on college and sponsored teams."

Joyce is a trailblazer in sports as a player and coach, and has seen how much they has progressed over the years. As the only softball coach at FAU for 26 years on top of several years playing sports at a high level, Joyce is considered a pioneer for the length of time she has been around sports, a big reason why she has been recognized for the honor.

"One of the most watched sports on television is fastpitch softball," said Joyce. "I feel like I was a part of part of that movement and feel very lucky to be from Connecticut where I had the opportunity to participate in all of those sports when I was really young and others didn't have that opportunity. I'm thankful to be recognized for this award and grateful for 1DZD."

Softball will be celebrating its 26th season of the program under direction of Joyce in 2020. FAU will be returning 11 players and welcoming 12 newcomers.
