BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (3-3-0) looks to keep the momentum rolling Tuesday night, as they face UCF (6-1-1) at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. First touch is set for 6 p.m.
About the Owls
Ivan Mykhailenko continues to make a positive impact for the Owls, coming off a five point night (two goals, one assist) against Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday night. His performance, which featured the most goals scored in a single game by an Owl since 2014, helped him capture Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Kyiv, Ukraine native also leads the team in several offensive categories, such as goals (4), points (10), shots (12) and shooting percentage (.333%). He has been involved in all but one of the Owls' goals this season.
Alex Alexis is leading the team in assists with three, and captured two last Wednesday against Florida Gulf Coast. Alexis and Edgardo Obregon, who also had an assist against the Eagles, have taken nine shots a piece, which follows Mykhailenko. Four different Owls have scored goals this season, with Axel Pantaleon bringing home his first one last Wednesday against his former school.
At goalkeeper, Hagay Jalon (2-2-0) and Daniel Ragoo (1-1-0) have both seen time in goal throughout this season. Jalon started on Wednesday, capturing a season-high eight saves and allowing just one goal scored. The redshirt senior currently has allowed 1.92 goals per game and has 18 saves. Ragoo has 15 saves for a .682 save percentage.
About the Knights
UCF has gotten off to a stellar start, as they currently sit at 6-1-1 (1-0-0 AAC) and are ranked No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The lone loss for the Knights came in their first game of the season on the heels of No. 4 Wake Forest, 2-1. Since then, the Knights have been rolling, knocking off No. 6 North Carolina (2-1), Florida Gulf Coast (4-1) and South Carolina (2-0).
Senior Cal Jennings has been the driving force of the Knights' offense, sitting at eight goals, 17 points and 29 shots taken on the year. The United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American is also tied for third in the country in goals per game. At goalkeeper, Yannik Oetti (6-1-1) has played in all eight games, allowing eight goals and capturing 21 saves for a 0.724 save percentage. The junior is also coming off two straight blank sheets.
Tough Schedule
FAU's matchup against UCF marks the sixth time this year the Owls have faced a team who is ranked or received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The Owls have two ranked opponents remaining on the schedule after Tuesday.
