BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming & diving opened up the 2019-20 season Saturday morning in a sunshine state showdown against Florida. Both teams fell short of the Gators, but a myriad of Owls earned top-three finishes in the first meet of the season. The women tallied five second-place finishes and four third-place titles, while the men's team captured six top-three finishes.

Quick Hits – Women
- Abby Marshall, the current school record holder in the 100-yard backstroke, earned second place in the event with a time of 57.77
- Fatimah Westbrook, the reigning Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, touched the wall second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.99)
- Molly Jordan completed the first top-three finish of her collegiate career, capturing third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.58
- Mackenzie Brown had a strong opening meet as an Owl, taking third in the 50 freestyle (23.99)
- Sharon Kok took third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.40
- Grace Molinaro finished her first collegiate meet with second in the 100 butterfly (57.79)
- On the boards, Alicia Mora finished second in the 3-meter (274.04) and third on the 1-meter (260.10). Malvina Catalano captured second in the 1-meter (275.32), picking off where she left off from last season's success
Quick Hits – Men
- Will Smith tallied a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:31.29
- Ahmed Hussein got off to a quick start in his first collegiate meet, tallying a third-place finish (1:40.22) in the 200 freestyle. Hussein would later capture third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.69
- Kyle Douglas completed a bronze finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.44
- Several Owls claimed fourth-place finishes, including Connor Smoak in the 50 freestyle (21.42), Douglas in the 100 and 200 backstroke with a time of 51.62 and 1:52.05, respectively, Jack Shapiro in the 500 freestyle (4:48.09) and Juan Imposimato in the 100 butterfly (54.37)
- Logan Downey tallied third in the 1-meter with a score of 261.22, while Michael Cannatelli followed in fourth (250.27). Cannatelli would later capture second in the 3-meter (315.37)
