ORLANDO, Fla.Â
– Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country took the course this evening at the UCF Invitational. The men finished in second with all six Owls clocking in new personal records.
Lachlan Shiver also won his second race of the year, third in career, with a 25:05.50 finish. The women's team finished fourth, racing in the 6K for the first time this season. Six Owl women finished within the top 20.
Â
It was an in-state battle on Friday night, as Bethune-Cookman (men only), UCF (women only), Florida, FIU and Jacksonville also took the course.
On the Men's Performance:
"We can take away many positives from this meet," said head coach
Alex Smolka. "It really looks like the guys team is coming together. Not only did Lachlan [Shiver] have an awesome race, but the rest of the guys are really coming along well! Out team's success not only hinges on Lachlan, but in cross country, it really matters how strong the No. 4 and No. 5 runners are. We saw are guys really step up this weekend!"
Â
On the Women's Performance:
"On the women's side, the women who raced this weekend executed our race plan extremely well! For many of them it was their first ever 6K race, and for the others, they have not raced this distance in quite some time, so it was a great rust buster for the remainder of our season. I know I keep on repeating myself, but I have to reiterate, our future certainty does look bright!"
