Beach Volleyball Splits Day One at the CCSA Tournament

EMERSON, Ga. - The Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team split its two pool play matches at the CCSA Tournament on Friday, sweeping UAB 5-0, but coming up just short against FIU 3-2. The Owls are now 12-14 on the season.

Match 1 vs. UAB
Teaming together for the first time all season, Jillenne Cangelosi and Kaila Dorish lost the first set on court five before rallying and winning the third set in a 15-13 thriller. Savannah Pesante and Sam Gott recorded the only sweep of the match, taking court four 21-18, 21-8. On court three, Nicole Navarro and Megan McGrath overcame a first set loss to win the match with a 15-5 third set victory in their first outing as a pair. Mackenzie Morris and Erica Brok won the first set at no. 2 21-18, then lost the second set 21-10, then recovered to take the third set 15-11 at no. 2. It was just the fourth time this season that the duo needed a third set to get the win. On court one, Amanda Silva and Nicole Grant took split a pair of two point decisions, then captured the decisive frame 15-11 to win the match.

Match 2 vs. FIU
Cangelosi and Dorish overcame a first set loss on court five to win sets two and three. Gott and Pesante suffered their first defeat as a team, falling in straight sets at no. 4. McGrath and Navarro dropped a pair of narrow decisions on court three. On court two, Brok and Morris swept for their second win of the day. Grant and Silva lost in straight sets at no. 1.
