BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team traveled to play No. 33 UCF on Sunday night, but the Knights ended the Owls' seven-match winning streak at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus. Still, FAU is 15-8 heading into the backstretch of the regular season, with three more road matches next weekend, then the 2019 Conference USA Championship.
Notables:
- In doubles play, Kirac Bekisoglu and Thomas Guy were a point away from clinching the match at No. 3, up 5-3, but the Knights (11-9) wrapped the other two courts first
- UCF clinched with singles wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5
- Bekisoglu, at No. 2, took his opponent to three by winning the opening set, but fell in the super tiebreaker (6-4, 3-6, 0-1 (3-10))
- Also playing out to the extra set was No. 3 Mehdi Laalej, who won set No. 2 and then had the full third-set tiebreak (3-6, 6-1, 4-6). That snapped a 13-match winning streak for the grad student
