Box Score 1 vs. UGA
Box Score 2 vs. SJU
BOCA RATON, Fla. â The Florida Atlantic University softball team finished day one of the First Pitch Classic 1-1. FAU dropped its first game against No. 6/7 Georgia 4-1, but bounced back in the second contest versus St. John's thanks to
Samantha Lageyre's game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the game 2-1.Â
Â
Quotable
"The team actually played very well both games," said head coach
Joan Joyce. "The team did a lot of things that were good, but we could have done better with bats in the second game. If Sammy wasn't playing the second game, we probably would have been up a creek without a paddle. It was a good second win. That's the thing with these kids, they never quit."

Key Plays
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when UGA's Alyssa DiCarlo hit a two-run homerun, which also scored Justice Milz who had previously reached first in light of a catcher's interference call on
Kaitlyn Burke. Fielding errors looked to be a thorn in the Owls' side, as UGA added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth following two errors on FAU. UGA's Mary Wilson Avant tossed a no-hitter until the bottom of the sixth inning after
Jolie Duffner's single down the left field line, but the Owls ended the inning with three runners stranded. In the bottom of the seventh, FAU had the bases loaded with the game-tying runner at the plate, but were only able to score in one run out to end the game.
