Owls Face Rival FIU to Kick-Off Bonus Play

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team will start Conference USA Bonus Play with a third matchup with rival FIU on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.

- Sophomore guard Richardson Maitre is the subject of this week's getting to know video
- FAU enters Bonus Play as the no. 8 seed, winners of three of its last four and having already clinched a spot in the C-USA Tournament
- A win would give Head Coach Dusty May sole possession of first place for most wins by a first year head coach since FAU moved to the Division I level
- A victory also guarantees FAU its first winning season since 2010-11
- The Owls (16-11, 7-7 C-USA) held an opponent to less than 50 points for the third time in four games, beating Rice 60-41. The 41 points tied for the second fewest points allowed by FAU since moving to Division I.
- FAU also kept Rice to a 26.7 field goal percentage, the lowest of any opponent this season
- Xavian Stapleton (14) and Karlis Silins (10) both came off the bench to score double-figures for the Owls
- Saturday's meeting will be the 45th all-time between the Owls and Panthers
- FIU leads the series 25-19 on the court, but had several wins vacated
- The two teams have each won a game in this season's two encounters, with each team winning on the other's home floor
- FAU has won four of the last six contests against FIU
- FIU won its last two home games, defeating Rice and North Texas last weekend
- Senior guard Brian Beard Jr. scored a game-high 22 points and had five assists
- Antonio Daye Jr. added 20 points and Devon Andrews chipped in 15
- The Panthers have four players that average double-digit scoring
- FAU travels to North Texas to face the Mean Green on Thursday, Feb. 28. The game is set an 8 p.m. Eastern tip-off and will air on ESPN+
