Cross Country’s Barone Receives C-USA Spirit of Service Award

DALLAS – Sean Barone of the Florida Atlantic University men's cross country team has been recognized as the school's recipient of the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, as announced by the league on Thursday. Barone is one of 14 recipients chosen in C-USA from the fall sports: men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, football and volleyball.
"This honor means that I was able to give back to a community that I have been able to call home now for almost three years," says Barone. "I am so blessed and humbled to receive this award and want to thank my teammates, advisors who got me involved and most importantly, God for showing me love and giving me the opportunities to show that love to others."
Barone recorded a 3.871 GPA, while working toward his bachelor's degree in biological sciences. The junior devotes his free time to serving the AD Henderson University School with several events, including PTO Movie and Art Night, Halloween Howl and a cross country meet.
The Chester Springs, Pennsylvania native is coming off his junior season having racked up two top-25 finishes and two huge personal records. Barone accomplished a personal record in the 8K at the UCF Invite, tallying a time of 26:50.37 for 11th place to elevate his team to a second place finish. He started out the year at the FAU Invite with a time of 16:11.50 in the 5K for 22nd place and the ended the season at the NCAA South Regional with a new personal record in the 10K (34:57.8), which also marks the 11th fastest time in school history.
As an exercise science and health promotion major, Barone has achieved a great deal of success in the classroom. Barone is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal honoree for holding a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, as well as a two-time Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.
