BOCA RATON, Fla. – After Friday's victory, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team's senior class has bookended their career with appearances in the Conference USA championship game. The Owls look to take the next step, one not seen since 2005, as the squad takes on North Texas in Sunday's title match to determine C-USA's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament.
The Owls (15-3-2) have needed extra time in each of the first two rounds to advance, but have successfully done so, with a shootout win over Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals, and a double overtime golden goal sending the team past Charlotte in Friday's semis. North Texas (14-5-1), on their home pitch, have topped UTEP (3-1) and Rice (2-0) to advance to the finals out of the bottom bracket.
Only once prior have the Owls both won a conference tournament championship and thus advanced to the NCAA Tournament, when the program was in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2005. Also, as FAU currently sits at 15 wins, the team is one away from tying the program single-season record, set in both 2003 and 2005.
The other potential path to the NCAA Tournament for FAU
could be an at-large bid.
Unofficially, the Owls are
No. 28 after Friday night's games. The NCAA Selection Show will be streamed online at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Owls' Semifinal Matchup in Review

Owls' Finals Matchup in Preview
North Texas earned the conference's No. 2 seed with a 7-2-1 league record, with the tie coming in the season finale, a scoreless two-overtime draw against Rice. The Mean Green have a long championship tradition, especially in C-USA, with either the regular season and/or tournament title each of the last five years. That includes earning both last year.
Opponent History
The Owls topped the Mean Green 1-0 on Oct. 25 in Boca Raton, with the game-winner coming on a penalty kick by
Pernille Velta. All of FAU's success in the all-time series has come in the last five years, with a 3-3 mark against UNT since joining C-USA. Previously, UNT had won the first eight in the series.

After This
Again, the determination for further postseason play will be either earning the league's automatic bid with an FAU win, or a potential at-large should North Texas prevail.
