Multiple Owls Advance and Alive at ITA Men’s Tennis Regionals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Midway through the ITA DI Southeast Men's Regional Championships, the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team has had all three of its members in the main draw advance, and the seeded team of Jason Legall and and Yovan Lambros are among the final 16 doubles pairs remaining in that bracket. Action continues through the weekend.

Notables:

Legall and Lambros, as the No. 8 double seed, earned a bye to the second round, and then topped their opposition from Georgia State, 8-6
Also in doubles, picking up a victory were Alvaro Fernandez Horta and Maxime Lapraille, 8-5 over a Georgia duo. The Owl pairing was edged out in the next round
All three singles competitors are alive in the round of 32, as Legall, Lapraille and Fernandez Horta all picked up straight set wins
Legall went over his opponent from USF, 7-5, 6-1
Lapraille had little trouble with a Florida State foe, 6-1, 6-3
Fernandez Horta took a victory over his Georgia opposition, 6-1, 7-5
Previously, in the singles qualifying bracket, after a bye in the first round, Luis Fernandez Labarta took a three-set win in the round of 32, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, over a Miami opponent
In the same bracket, in the round of 64, Yovan Lambros was victorious against a player from UNF (6-3, 6-4)
Hunter Robbins won a consolation matchup against FGCU, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4

"The guys showed up today ready to compete. Alvaro (Fernandez Horta) and Max (Maxime Lapraille) got things started in doubles with a great win over a very solid Georgia team. Jason (Legall) and Yovan (Lambros) had a tough match against a feisty Georgia State team and came up big in clutch moments.

"In singles, Alvaro continued to show his great form, beating a very good player from Georgia in straight sets. Jason had another dominant win and I was very impressed with his ability to grind down a very tough player. Maxime played one of the best matches I have seen from him. Very composed from start to finish.

"Overall I was very impressed with our guys' willingness to compete today. They will have more great opportunities ahead of them tomorrow."
