BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's soccer has a pit stop at home Friday night – in the midst of six out of a scheduled seven matches being on the road – taking on Conference USA foe UTSA in the second contest of a doubleheader with the men's squad. The Owls (9-3-0, 3-1-0 C-USA) still pace the league with a No. 30 RPI ranking and put a six-match home winning streak on the line against the Roadrunners (4-5-1, 0-3-0 C-USA).
Owls' Week in Review
The Owls split last weekend, on a trip to Louisiana and Mississippi. Against Louisiana Tech on Friday, a home goal late in the first overtime gave FAU their first loss since Sept. 1, a 1-0 decision. The squad rebounded Sunday with a 3-1 win at Southern Miss, their first victory ever over the Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg. Despite the loss to start the weekend, the Owls are 7-1 in their last eight matches.
Owls' Weekend in Preview
UTSA has lost their last three, all in C-USA play, all at home, and all by one goal (4-3 in overtime versus Middle Tennessee, and 1-0 against both Rice and North Texas). The Roadrunners had started the year 3-1-0 before this recent 1-4-1 stretch. The combination of Ellis Patterson (four) and Lexi Bolton (three) make up nearly have the team's goals this season, seven of 15. Sophie Milich and Jill Schneider have literally split time in goal, five matches each, with Milich picking up three of the squad's four victories.
Opponent History
The all-time series has been a virtual back-and-forth, with ties in the first two matchups (2013 and 2014), a 1-0 UTSA win in Boca Raton in 2015, and after a three-year layoff, a 2-1 overtime win in San Antonio by the Owls last season (earning head coach Patrick Baker the 300th win of his career). Total it up, and it's a 1-1-2 stalemate between the two squads.
