BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but couldn't maintain the pace, ultimately falling to WKU 72-66 on Saturday. The Owls are now 11-8 on the season and 2-4 in Conference USA.
The Start
FAU led 23-11 at the midway point of the first half, on the strength of seven three-pointers. The Hilltoppers (9-9, 2-3) cut the lead to six, 40-34, at the half, despite the Owls making 10 triples in the first 20 minutes.
The Turning Point
WKU opened the second half on a 9-1 run to take a 43-41 edge. From that point, the two teams went back and forth for the next 11 minutes. The score was tied at 62-all with four minutes left in the game.
The Finish
The Hilltoppers scored the next seven points to go up 69-62. FAU pulled to within five twice, but couldn't get any closer. WKU made five of six free throw attempts in the final two minutes to seal the win.
Notables
· Anthony Adger and Xavian Stapleton each scored 17 points to lead the Owls
· Aleksandar Zecevic posted seven points and seven rebounds
· Richardson Maitre had three assists and pulled down seven rebounds, tying his career-high
