FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three second half goals gave Arkansas a 3-1 win over the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team on Friday night at Razorback Field.
Turning Point:
On their first attempt of the game, the Owls (2-5-0) proved successful. An Arkansas foul put possession just on the FAU side of midfield, and Ebba Blomqvist struck a beautiful long ball into the box. Tiril Haga headed the one-timer over the oncoming Arkansas (4-1-1) goalkeeper for the early lead in the 13th minute. It remained 1-0 into and after halftime, before the Razorbacks squared it on a corner and header combination 12:57 into the second half.
The Finish:
Arkansas took the lead in the 74th, and extended it 3:04 later. The two scores came as part of a 13-3 shot advantage for the Razorbacks after the break. After the final goal, the home team still controlled possession as the Owls did not get another shot off.
Notables:
Quotable:
"It was a decent start," said Head Coach Patrick Baker. "We had a nice set piece, managed to go up 1-0. But yeah, just the amount of pressure with the way they play and their level of athletes, they managed to get the equalizer there early in the second half. But still with 15 minutes to go it's 1-1 on the road against a very good team, we're probably hanging on a little bit, but we're at least managing, and then unfortunately the second goal off an individual mistake just cost us."
