Men's Soccer Begins League Play Against South Carolina on Friday

sBOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic men's soccer team will square off against Conference USA foe South Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. at FAU Soccer Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
The Owls (1-2-0) posted their first win of the season in dramatic fashion last weekend at FAU Soccer Stadium. FAU and St. Thomas remained tied as time ticked away in the second extra period. With only eight seconds left, Gonzalo Pena Barrasus sent the ball past the Bobcats' defense for the win.
CATCHING UP WITH THE OWLS
Hagay Jalon has been the starter in-goal for FAU through three games this season, playing all 290 minutes. He has one clean sheet and 15 total saves on the season.
Gonzalo Pena Barrasus is the only goal scorer for the Owls so far this season and he also leads in shots with seven.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
South Carolina (1-2-0) dropped its season opener, 1-0, to then No. 13 Georgetown before picking up the first win of the season against Lipscomb on August 24 by a score of 2-1. Last week, the Gamecocks fell to Clemson, 2-0.
Justin Sukow and Tucker Monheimer have each scored for South Carolina this season, while Luca Mayr leads the team in shots with 13. The Gamecocks return 14 letterwinners from last season, including seven starters.
LAST MEETING
The Owls secured a 2-1 win in Columbia last season on a golden goal in the first extra period. That win was the first under now second-year head coach Joey Worthen, a South Carolina alum and former player.

Next week, FAU will pack their bags and head out on the road. The Owls face USF on Monday in Tampa and will then conference play at Charlotte on Friday, September 14. Both of those games have 7 p.m. start times.
