Key Plays
Set number one was tied 4-4 when FAU went on an 8-4 run to take a 12-8 lead. Another scoring run pushed the margin out to eight, 19-11. UAB trimmed the gap to five, but didn't get any closer, as the Owls won 25-17.
Kori Varney's serving helped the Owls win the first three points of the second set, which proved vital, as the Blazers (8-8, 0-2 C-USA) stayed close for most of the frame. The score was tied five different times during the set, the final occasion coming at 19-19. However, the Owls reasserted control of the action, closing the stanza with a 6-2 run to take a two sets to none lead. In the third set, it was
Abbi Reid's serving that built an early three point lead. That cushion ultimately turned out to be even more essential, as set three featured 16 ties and six lead changes. After UAB tied the score at 23 on a Victoria Young kill and a service ace,
Sigourney Kame and
